Marina Barrage creates the 15th reservoir in Singapore. Besides providing a new source of water supply and flood control, Marina Barrage offers a venue for water -based activities in the heart of the city.
Next stop is the Singapore City Gallery located at the Ministry of National Development. Spread over 3 floors and first opened in 1999, the gallery showcases Singapore's transformation over the past 50 years. A must see to appreciate the hard work that went into building a successful sustainable global city. (Closed on Sundays and Public Holidays, will substitute with visit Buddha Tooth Relic Temple)
Chinatown Wet Market is just 200m walk away. This exotic and busy market in a historically ethnic Cantonese Speaking Chinese enclave still retains its old noisy charm of doing business; selling ingredients such as herbs, fresh, meats, and seafood used in traditional Chinese cooking. On another floor, household products needed to celebrate Chinese festivals can be found.
Our last stop and highlight is the Tiong Bahru Market and Food Centre. It is located in one of the oldest remaining public housing estates which were built by the British colonial government. The area has lately become hip with many artisanal bread and cake shops catering to the younger generation and expats. The hawker food centre located in the 2nd floor of the market is an all time favourite with its wide variety of affordable fast food catering to every taste and diet including roast meats, chicken rice, tim sum, halal Muslim food, vegetarian etc. We'll recommend a few of the more popular ones for lunch which should not cost more than S$6. After lunch, you're invited to sample, when available, seasonal tropical fruits.

"As is the rest of Singapore, this place is immaculate. I am amazed that although there are some paid activities like the cloud forest and a suspension bridge like walkway between some of the \'trees\', most of the area is free."
